A career advisor will be available every Friday for appointments at Nelson Connected, Work and Income Office, 22 Bridge Street, Nelson.

Get your Certificate in Hospitality

Are you aged 16-19? Are you interested in a career in Hospitality?

Study for your NZ Certificate in Hospitality (Level 2) and NCEA Level 2 in their 30 week programme at the Nelson Training Centre. This includes a 2 week term breaks obeserved by mainstream schools. Start when you want, the course is offered on a rolling intake.

You will learn in a very practical and hands on learning environment and work experience within local hospitality businesses for suitable learners.

As a youth guarantee funded programme, this course is free for those aged 16-19.
Students 18yrs + are eligible for Student Allowance.

Trades Academy courses

Are you ready for a real job, but not ready to leave school?

Keep your options open by achieving NCEA credits at school while gaining practical work skills and trades qualifications in a wide range of industries from automotive engineering to uniformed services.

You will be supported to ease your transition into the world of work, identify further training or study opportunities, show you what your career could look like while working towards NCEA.

You will attend 1-day week for the school year hands-on training at NMIT's campuses or at selected schools across our region. Some courses are live-in 'block' courses at Whenua Iti Outdoors.

Inland Revenue (IR) offers three practical sessions:

  • Starting a business? Introduction to Business offers information on the different ways to structure your business, expenses you can claim, and how income tax and provisional tax works.
  • Are you registered for GST or thinking of registering for GST? GST is to help you learn who needs to register for GST, what GST is charged on, what information must be recorded and how to send this to them, and ceasing your GST registration.
  • Are you employing? The Employers session covers who needs to register as an employer, and what information must be recorded and how to send it to IR.
