Apprenticeship Boost

Financial support scheme for employers to keep or hire new apprentices. The scheme runs for 20 months from 5 August 2020.

About What it's about

Funding for employers to help them support their apprentices to train and develop their skills.

Who Who it's for

Employers of apprentices in their first or second year of a New Zealand Apprenticeship or a Managed Apprenticeship approved by the Tertiary Education Commission.

Offers What it offers

Payments to employers of $1,000 a month for first year apprentices, and $500 a month for second year apprentices. 

Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund

Targeted Training and Apprenticeship Fund supports trainees to gain the skills that your business needs, to help kickstart New Zealand’s economy. It’s now easier to take on (and keep on) apprentices, as their training fees are covered.

About What it's about

The Targeted Training and Apprenticeships Fund (TTAF) will pay the costs of training for jobs in industries where demand for workers is high. This makes it easier for New Zealanders of all ages to retrain in areas with better job opportunities. If your business has an apprentice, or is considering taking one on, TTAF will cover their fee costs regardless of the industry they’re training in.

Cadetships

Te Puni Kōkiri

Boost the future of your business while developing the leadership and career paths of promising Māori employees. Partner with Te Puni Kōkiri to grow Māori leaders.

About What it's about

Te Puni Kōkiri Cadetships supports Māori to achieve their potential in the workplace, and contribute to thriving, innovative and resilient businesses. It works by providing funding for employers to design, develop and implement tailored training and development programmes for Māori staff (who can be newly employed, or existing staff members), that will improve their skills, employability and earnings, and provide opportunities for them to move into leadership roles. Ideally, Cadetships programmes encompass elements of tikanga to support cadets to increase their confidence and mana.

Who Who it's for

Large, medium, and small employers, in a range of industries are encouraged to partner with Te Puni Kōkiri to deliver Cadetships programmes. Cadetships are largely aimed at supporting Māori of all ages who are moving to the next stage of their career, into management roles or leadership positions. They can also support new employees to accelerate their skills-development and opportunities for progression.

Employer-led Workplace Literacy and Numeracy Fund

Increase workplace productivity by providing high-quality literacy and numeracy programmes to your employees.

About What it's about

The Employer-led Workplace Literacy and Numeracy Fund helps employers:

  • fix productivity problems caused by literacy and numeracy issues
  • provide employee literacy and numeracy programmes that are customised to their workplace.

Who Who it's for

If you’re an employer, you may be eligible for this fund. The eligibility criteria are on the Tertiary Education Commission website.

Offers What it offers

The fund provides assessments for employees, a programme to improve literacy and numeracy, and insights into productivity issues caused by literacy and numeracy issues in the workplace.

COVID-19 Leave Support Scheme

Ministry of Social Development

Payments from Work and Income to support employers, including self-employed people, to pay wages if their employees can’t work due to COVID-19.

About What it's about

Supporting employers whose employees can’t come into work because Ministry of Health guidelines recommend they stay at home, and they can't work from home.

Who Who it's for

Employers, including self-employed people, whose employees can’t work due to COVID-19. There’s more eligibility criteria on the Work and Income website.

Offers What it offers

Payments of $585.80 for people working 20 hours or more a week, or $350.00 for people working less than 20 hours per week.
